hope everyone had a great Christmas. i've been busy running around but did manage to get a little done my wolf priest. i'm also planning a heresy diorama, so i'm working on a test for the sons of horus. i see that the new fw figs are black. does anyone know if all horus termies are black?

i love this fig. third attempt at it. going for a greyer version this time. and he'll have a sword instead of the axe. using mostly p3 paints this time around. i like how they blend better than gw.

i thought i'd try some different techniques on this brute. the arm is my attempt at cracking. the flesh is bit of a mess, not sure what to do with that.

i was getting rusty wth the airbrush so i thought i'd refresh myself on this hellbrute. i've got the basic colors laid out. i might add a bit more green to it.

 just got my troll in the mail yesterday. man he's big. he'll be my main project for gencon next year. i'll need to warm up my airbrush for this guy. the chaos dude is going to be my icon bearer for my noise squad. just did an arm swap from the new asp champ fig. already cut the axe off for my other lord. not sure if i'll change the other arm yet.

not in the mood for pink, so i thought id work on some old projects.

dusting this one off again for demons next year. more champ axes. i think next year will be my purple year. i'm sure some nurgle will filter in somewhere.

worked on this guy a little more. i didn't care much for the sword, so i gave him the axe off the new aspiring champ. i think it changes the look enough.

 just trying out some noise marine ideas. it might work.

well i thought I'd try again. the local gw is having a paint contest for the fun of it. so i bought this dude to paint for it and wow, what a POS. it's got more bubbles than a bubble bath. can't we solve this issue already? for 20 bucks, i would like to get the whole fig. not a holey fig. the nose is missing along with the end of his chin. the ends of fingers, teeth, rivets, you name it and chances are there's a hole in it. how long are we going to put up with this junk? i have better luck with fw and that's not saying much. Ack!

had some fun with testors metal paint. found a spay can of it in a box of old paint in the garage. after ten years, i was shocked it still worked. after painting i buffed with a rag to get a decent shine. then i weathered it with some pastels. i dullcoated it which lost the shine a little but still looks good i think.

not much time to paint this week. all i managed to get done on the nurgle guy is the gun. i did the yellow first in bubonic brown and shaded it with dark flesh. the highlight was bleached bone and white. after the yellow was finished, i painted the stripes in rhinox brown mixed with black.

I've had a few requests on painting my little nurgle dudes, so I'm posting a basic step by step here. this is what I've got so far.                                                                                                                                                                 

                                               i start with white primer.

                                                   then i add light coats of desert yellow. slowly building color. i let the white show through where the highlights will be.

                                                  next,  i go wash crazy. the fleshy stuff gets washed with fleshshade.

                                                  the armor gets several coats of gryphonne sepia. i don't wash it over everything. i paint it in the shaded areas and work my way out.

                                                 i paint some bolt gun on the pads and knife. then i add washes of earth and camoshade to darken the shadows and tint parts of the armor so that it isn't the same all over.

                                                 at this point i start highlighting with bone and white. more too come this week i hope.

well I haven't been doing a good job lately keeping up on my updates. just too much work. but having the day off, I thought I'd post a few pics.

started this one last night. one of chris borer's cool minis. if it looks familiar, he won a demon last year with it. i hope to do it justice.

i finally got a chance to sit down to update post gamesday. what a blast, the event itself isn't that exciting to me. but it's great to see my fellow painters again and meet some new ones. first off, lets talk demons. i was impressed that they put us right in the middle with some glass showcases, not the scuffed old plexiglass from previous years. i never got a good look at the entries, due to the line which was long all day. i was really happy with my two demons, a gold for my nurgle, and a bronze for my goblin. there were some great entries this year and i'm bummed gw isn't posting them on their site. todd's sword winner was awesome. so much conversion work just to take her cloths off. well worth it i say. great job. i was hoping to get something done for gen con but i think i just stop in Saturday for a visit.

 

hope i'm done by gamesday. i'm cutting it close.

got him on a base now. an old one i had laying around. it used to hold a nurgle dude before, hence the brownish color.

i dusted the cobwebs off this guy. i might give it a go for my demon large fig cat.

got a little more color added. the backpack still needs to be toned down  some. but it's getting nearer to completion.

i'm going for the plasma pistol because im just not digging the other arm. im hoping to wrap it up this weekend so i can move on to my demon entry.

i got one of the arms on and blocked in. i also added two new figures to my rogue trader marines.

found a mold line on the chest. got it cleaned off, so i started painting the torso. not sure what i want to do with the arms yet. i don't like the one with all the cables.

a little more painted, i know they like loud colors but i just can't bring myself to do it. i guess its the nurgle in me.

trying a small experiment on this guy. so far i've only used gw washes for colors so far. it gives it a watercolor look.

a little bit of progress on the speeder. not much due to work. and i'm going stat up this guy as a test for my termie lord i'm working on for the demons. hope to have more frequent updates once work settles down.
